text messages from drex.
drex. sends five kinds of text message, and only ever to a number someone typed in and confirmed themselves. Here is exactly what they are and how to stop them.
What we send
Five kinds of message, and nothing else
Sign-in codes. A six-digit code, sent only at the moment you ask to sign in. These arrive because you requested one; there is no way to receive them otherwise.
Example: Your Drex code is 123456. It expires in 10 minutes.
Club hour. A reminder the day before a club you have joined meets, and a message if that meeting is moved or called off. The text names the club and when; where it is, and everything else about it, is on the club’s page behind the link.
Example: Bookbinding Club: club hour tomorrow, Thu 7-9pm. [link] Reply STOP to opt out.
Example: Bookbinding Club: no club hour Thu 4 Sep. [link] Reply STOP to opt out.
Deadline reminders. If a club you have joined is putting an issue together and you have not added your page yet, we can remind you before it closes. These stop as soon as your page is in, and they only ever concern a club you are a member of. When a deadline falls on a club night, this rides along with the club hour reminder rather than arriving as a second text.
Example: Bookbinding Club: “Night Bus” closes tomorrow. Add your page any time — [link] Reply STOP to opt out.
Club messages. The host of a club you have joined can send a short message — up to 140 characters — to the members of that club who asked to be texted. Most often it is “we’re meeting now, come in”, but the words are the host’s. Nobody else can send you anything, and no other member can reach you this way.
Example: Bookbinding Club is live — Club hour is happening now — come in: [link] Reply STOP to opt out.
A note written to you. The host of a club you have joined can leave a note addressed to you rather than to the room. The text says only that a note is waiting and who left it — the note itself is in the app, never in the message.
Example: Rosa left you a note in Bookbinding Club: [link] Reply STOP to opt out.
We do not send marketing, promotional or advertising messages, and we never text people who have not asked us to.
Opting in
Giving us your number is the opt-in
There is one moment, and it is the moment you type your number in. The screen you type it on says this, word for word, above the button that submits it:
“Enter your number and we’ll text you a code to confirm it. After that we text you five things and nothing else: your sign-in code when you ask for one, a reminder before your club hour and if it moves or is called off, a reminder when a deadline is close, a message from a club’s host, and a note written to you. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP any time to stop them.”
We then text a code to confirm the number is really yours. Nobody is ever texted at a number they did not enter and confirm themselves.
You never have to give us one. Drex works entirely by email — you can sign up, sign in and use every part of it without a phone number, and if you never give one you will never get a text from us.
We record which version of the wording you agreed to. If we ever broaden what a text can be about, that agreement lapses and nobody is texted again until they have seen the new words and said yes to those.
Stopping
Reply STOP, any time
Reply STOP to any message and we suppress your number immediately. We also honour STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END and QUIT. Reply START to undo it. Reply HELP for help.
You can also turn texts off without replying. Silencing a club’s bell in the app stops every text from that club, deadline reminders included — you still get those by email, so nothing goes missing. Removing your phone number in your notification settings stops every text of every kind.
Message frequency varies. Sign-in codes arrive only when you request one; club hour reminders follow whatever nights your clubs meet, and changes to those nights are as rare as the changes themselves; deadline reminders arrive in the run-up to a deadline you have not met yet; messages from a host and notes written to you arrive when a host writes one. Message and data rates may apply. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Your number
What we do with your phone number
We use your number for the things above and nothing else. We do not sell it, rent it, or share it with third parties for their own marketing.
It is stored on your account so we can text you, and it is passed to our messaging provider, Twilio, solely to deliver the messages you asked for. Sign-in codes themselves are never stored in readable form. Removing your number in your notification settings deletes it from your account.
